About Margo
Bath Road hotels all look the same from the pavement, and Margo can tell them apart in the dark. She is 166 cm and slim, with long dark brown hair worn straight and flat to her shoulders, and brown eyes that assess a room before she has taken her coat off. She is an early thirties sort of elegant: a plain dress, good shoes, nothing that will look dated in a photograph in ten years.
English speaking and sparing with it. She is not shy, she is simply not interested in filling a room with noise, and most people find that restful inside a quarter of an hour. She has a dry sense of humour that arrives without warning and usually at the expense of something she has been watching for a while. She notices what people order and what they leave on the plate, and she has never once been wrong about what it means.
One hotel sits on the northern edge of the runway along the Bath Road, and its bar has a window wall facing the taxiways, which she considers the most underrated view in west London. An evening with her here begins there, usually late, with aircraft lining up outside and no need to talk over anything at all. Knightsbridge is home, and reaching this stretch of road means either a long ride out on the underground or the better part of an hour behind a windscreen, so anything at the airport runs three hours at minimum with the travel counted.

An evening with Margo
Ten at night, the long window in that bar over the taxiways, and a queue of aircraft going past with their lights on. She picks the seat facing outwards and lets you have the view, then spends the first twenty minutes barely speaking while you both watch it. Very few people mind.
After that she thaws, quickly and completely. The conversation goes somewhere unexpected and stays there. She is the opposite of hard work once the room has settled, and she is exceptionally good at knowing when a night should end. If the alarm is set for five she will be dressed and gone before it, with the curtains left as she found them. She is worth the wait and she knows it, which stops just short of being annoying.

Q.01Why the Bath Road and not the terminals?
The rooms are bigger and the bars have windows. Everything at the terminals is designed for people passing through. These hotels were designed for people staying the night, which is a different thing entirely.
Q.02You do not talk much at first. Why?
Because I would rather say something worth hearing in the second hour than fill the first one with weather. People who wait are rewarded. People who cannot wait should book somebody else and I mean that kindly.
Q.03Do the aircraft keep you awake?
Nothing after eleven at night, by law, and very little before six. The Bath Road is quieter at three in the morning than most streets in Knightsbridge.
