About Sonya
One stop up the Piccadilly line from Hatton Cross the world goes quiet, and that suits Sonya, who has never much liked a crowd. She is 162 cm with an athletic build, long dark brown hair worn straight, and hazel eyes that hold perfectly still. Early thirties, she dresses plainly and precisely, and she has the stillness of somebody who trained hard at something for years and then stopped.
English speaking and quiet with it. She swims most days and it shows in the way she crosses a room. She is the calmest person in nearly every building she walks into, and it is contagious inside about ten minutes, which is why people who work impossible hours tend to book her rather than anybody louder. She notices when somebody is running on fumes and slows the whole evening down to match it, without ever mentioning that she is doing so.
The hotel inside the central area at Terminals 2 and 3 is reached by a lift and a walkway rather than a road, and from Hatton Cross it is two stops on the Piccadilly line, four minutes end to end. She prefers it to the Bath Road because nobody pulls up outside it in a taxi at one in the morning. She lives in Knightsbridge, an hour out on the line, so bookings here start at three hours with the travel counted in.
She returns on the eighth of October, and anything later than that can be pencilled in today. Practical notes on the gateway station live on the Hatton Cross page, and booking reaches her.

Booking Sonya
Away until 8 October, with dates from then held on request. Airport bookings run three hours at £700 as a minimum with the travel included, and she is at her best on an overnight.
Every figure she works to is printed on the fare board, and the four steps from message to doorbell sit on the booking page.

An evening with Sonya
Nine at night in a lobby inside the central terminals, where the noise of the airport is two floors away and completely sealed off. She arrives early and waits without checking her phone, which is a small thing that people notice and comment on afterwards.
The evening is slow by design. She talks in short sentences, asks very little and listens properly, and she has a way of making a conversation about work sound interesting to the person having it. If you have been awake for twenty hours she will simply sit with you, and that turns out to be worth more than any amount of sparkle. She leaves as quietly as she arrived, usually before the corridor wakes up.
Sonya, on the record
Q.01Why inside the terminals?
Because you never go outside. No taxi, no weather, no wait at a rank at midnight. From Hatton Cross it is four minutes on the line and from the gate it is a walkway.
Q.02You are described as quiet. Is that a warning?
It is a description. I do not perform and I do not fill silences. Most of my guests have been talking all day and would rather not do it for another three hours.
Q.03Do you still train?
I swim most mornings, about a mile, and I have done since I was a child. It is the only part of the old routine I kept and it is the reason I sleep well anywhere.
